June 2008 NewsletterIn this issue: Our New Home
This new home is allowing GSS to extend and enhance the range of specialist facilities we provide, along with the space to develop and present our exhibition and education programmes. It is also enabling us to expand the size of the artists’ studios to accommodate 47 professional contemporary visual artists. A special launch party is currently being developed to introduce these new facilities and will be announced in July’s newsletter. 20th AnniversaryIt is officially our 20th anniversary this month and we’re planning a special celebratory event later this year. Since the organisations inception there have been significant changes in the development of contemporary sculptural practice, as there has in the make-up of our artist members, which has subsequently broadened the needs of this artistic community. This along with the significant growth and professionalisation of our Public Programme activities has seen the organisation progress from being artist-run to artist-led. An artist-led vision remains at the heart of Glasgow Sculpture Studios. Artistic input into decision making processes is seen as key to developing and realising the ongoing creative and artistic aspirations of the organisation to ensure that it remains a vital resource for the next 20 years.
