Public Launch

GSS will open its doors for an evening of special events.

Saturday 25 October 2008
7pm - 10pm
145 Kelvinhaugh Street

Glasgow Sculpture Studios marks its 20th anniversary with the unveiling of its new premises and expanded programme.

GSS would like to invite you and a guest to join us for this Public Launch to celebrate the 20th Anniversary and Re-launch of Glasgow Sculpture Studios at our new premises, 145 Kelvinhaugh Street.

The evening will begin with the Preview of our inaugural Exhibition Programme, GOOD TEETH by collaborative duo Beagles & Ramsay. This new, large-scale sculptural installation was created during their three-month Production Residency at GSS.

A one-off event titled Decommissioned Trailer by Jacqueline Donachie (GSS Member) with Chris Geddes will coincide with the preview. Sited within GSS' Communal Production Facilities this event will allow visitors the opportunity to view our expanded premises and production facilities.

'Decommissioned Trailer' is the end of one thing and the beginning of another; it's an event and a suggestion, and possibly a proposal for something else. It's also a sculpture, but one that sounds and tastes great.

Beagles & Ramsay Exhibition & Gallery Opening hours

Glasgow Sculpture Studios launches a new gallery with Beagles & Ramsay's GOOD TEETH

"The world belongs to those with teeth".

GOOD TEETH is a new, large-scale sculptural installation created by Beagles & Ramsay during their three-month Production Residency at GSS. The exhibition launch from 7pm-10pm on Saturday 25 October marks the beginning of the new exhibition programme at GSS.

What has been great about the Glasgow Sculpture Studios residency is the opportunity to work in a larger studio for several months and receive the support necessary to allow us to create an ambitious new, sculptural work...The sculptural dimension of our work has come to the fore over the past few years and we saw this as the perfect situation to push things on to another level in terms of both conceptual and technical complexity. This has been an important opportunity to work with a new set of materials on a bolder scale than previous work.

Gallery opening hours are Thursday – Saturday, 12-5pm and by appointment.
Exhibition runs from 30 October – 19 December 2008. Free entry.

AHM Research Residency

AHM Ainsley Harding Moffat

GSS is proud to announce a new two-year Research Residency with three of Scotland’s key cultural figures; Sam Ainsley, David Harding, Sandy Moffat.

It is generally recognised that individually all three have contributed enormously to the development of Glasgow’s status as a leading centre for contemporary art, to the city’s cultural life in general and as promoters of Scotland’s art and culture around the world over the past 25 years.

AHM is dedicated to working with other individuals, groups and institutions locally, nationally, and internationally, who wish to make a significant contribution to the cultural and political life of Scotland.

AHM acts as a catalyst by providing platforms for Scotland’s vibrant community of artists to develop their artistic practice, whilst enhancing understanding and awareness of the relevance of contemporary artistic practice to national cultural identity, with the intention of directly influencing the Scottish Government of the vital importance of the arts to our society.

AHM

This two year residency will provide AHM with a dedicated meeting space and access to the GSS Artists’ Facilities and Artists’ Support Programmes. This will support the development of ideas and initiatives culminating in a series of events and an inter-related partnership programme with GoMA in 2010.

Exchange to Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum

GSS is also delighted to announce a new partnership project with Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum.

The partnership with Skulpturenpark Berlin_Zentrum will focus on facilitating reciprocal arrangements to provide artist exchange opportunities for members of Glasgow Sculpture Studios. The aim of the exchange is to allow artists at different stages of their professional careers to develop their practice through the involvement in another artistic community, with an emphasis on the importance of meaningful cultural exchange and dialogue with artists and audiences.

GSS looks forward to inviting its members to participate in this exciting opportunity and to welcoming a number of new short term resident artists from Berlin to Glasgow in the coming months.
